Rule Lawyering

So I've been doing some research on rules that have come up in the past and would like to start an ongoing thread/discussion. Keep in mind that many of these situations are not covered by official GW FAQ's, and are therefore a consensus among the broader Warhammer gaming community. I will provide links to the discussion wherever possible. Feel free to add any rules, discussions or references you see fit; and try to stick as close to cannon as you can.

Topic 1) Fast Cav LOS
"Models block line of sight in a unit, pure and simple. Having a 360 degree LoS doesn't alter that fact. So while each model will have 360 degree LoS, this is likely to be blocked by at least one model in one or more directions.
Skirmishers are the only instance where you can shoot through models in the same unit."

Topic 2) Stand and Shoot for Rear/Flank Charges
It is generally agreed that a stand and shoot reaction still has to follow the basic rules for shooting, therefore models still can only shoot in their legal shooting arcs (save skirmishers, single models on foot, etc.)Therefore a unit of non skirmishers cannot elect to stand and shoot a charging unit that stays out of their arc of sight.

  1. Topic 1) Generally I agree with this statement, but maybe that's only because I don't think Fast Cav should be the absurdly good no drawback unit that they have become. Maybe I just don't like Dark Riders... In all seriousness it makes sense, each model has 360 LOS blocked in the usual manner by other models. So a model in the center of a 1x5 unit can shoot in front and behind them, though I would argue that instead of the usual 45 degree angle shooting arc, that the model would get to shoot at 179 degrees off the base. A picture would make more sense here, but tough.

    2. Agreed! I thought this was a bit of BS when it came up in the 2010 Cap City Carnage Tournament. I'll have to look more into it though.
